Cape Fear Literacy is Opening Doors & Changing Lives

The Cape Fear Literacy Council (CFLC) provides free and confidential learning programs to help adults reach their maximum potential.

Adult Basic Literacy (ABL)

One-on-one tutoring is the core of CFLC’s adult literacy program. They provide free, confidential, and individualized instruction to adults seeking to improve their skills in reading, writing, and math. Volunteers complete extensive training to become tutors and are matched with adult learners to help them reach their goals.

CFLC also offers small classes in specific subjects, such as Computer Skills, to supplement one-on-one instruction. CFLC’s staff, volunteer training team, and resource materials provide support to students and tutors. The computer lab and study rooms at the center are available five days a week.

English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)

Students in small ESOL classes are provided with an opportunity to increase their listening, speaking, and writing skills in a friendly, safe learning environment.

Approximately 2,000 volunteer tutors have been trained, and certified. These tutors, in turn, have donated hundreds of thousands of hours to help more than 3,500 adult learners throughout the Cape Fear region.

Hooks Systems of Wilmington, NC, is honored to have been chosen many years ago as CFLC’s I.T. Support Team. CFLC benefits from their renowned 24 x 7 network monitoring and instant remote Helpdesk support through Hooks Systems’ unique IT RemoteCare services suite.
